CalSouthern’s Master of Arts in Psychology (MA) is a degree program designed for those interested in pursuing a career in marriage and family therapy or as a licensed clinical counselor. If you’re drawn to helping people with emotional issues or relationship problems, perhaps this degree is right for you. And CalSouthern’s MA degree program is a track toward licensure in the state of California; the program satisfies the educational requirements for licensure as a marriage and family therapist or as a licensed professional clinical counselor. (Since these requirements change periodically, you’re encouraged to maintain contact with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences to remain informed about all licensing requirements. The program may or may not meet the educational requirements of other states. Of course, CalSouthern’s faculty and staff stand ready to give guidance, answer questions, and provide any support you might need as you progress through the MA program.)
CalSouthern’s MA is will teach you a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques to improve, restore, or maintain the mental health of individuals, couples, and families. You’ll develop the personal qualities that are essential to effective therapeutic practice, including sensitivity, insightfulness, compassion, and integrity. You’ll also become attuned to ethical and multicultural issues that pertain to marriage and family therapy as well as professional clinical counseling.
While the MA is a long-term commitment, it is the CalSouthern degree program that’s your fastest and most direct path to licensure in the state of California. It will also provide the foundational, master’s-level knowledge to prepare you for CalSouthern’s doctoral program, should you decide to pursue your PsyD.
Regardless of your ultimate educational and career goals, once you enroll in the MA, you’ll become a valued member of the CalSouthern community. This means that you’ll be mentored by a faculty comprised of mental health practitioners who are accomplished experts in their fields, as well as dedicated and gifted educators with special expertise in CalSouthern’s online learning methodology. You’ll also be supported by an administration and staff that make your satisfaction and your success their number-one priority. It’s what sets CalSouthern apart from other online universities and it’s something we take great pride in.
