MFT Programs in California
by Estimated Total Program Tuition

Have questions?

I’ve got answers. When you book a one-on-one coaching call, I can help you get clarity on whether you’re a competitive candidate for the more affordable schools, whether a more expensive program is worth it for you (and what all that extra money gets you anyway), and so much more.

Estimates are for the total program, not annually, and assume full-time enrollment, no specialization/concentration, California residency (where applicable), and completion of the minimum number of required units in the shortest amount of time possible. For estimates I calculated, I did not include any other fees or costs not designated “tuition.” In some instances, programs offer tuition estimates on their websites or provided figures to me directly that do include some fees; these have not been modified. However, most estimates were calculated by multiplying the number of units required to graduate by the per-unit cost of tuition. Some schools charge less per unit during summer session--in those cases, I attempted to account for summer session fees, but these numbers fluctuate regularly. Estimates should not be assumed to definitively rank programs according to cost but to provide a ballpark estimate from which a prospective student can do more research. Bear in mind that scholarships, grants, and work-study programs can all lower tuition costs. Please also be aware that many programs charge extra fees that have not been accounted for in the following estimates! These may include per-unit fees, per-semester fees, enrollment fees, lab fees, etc. Finally, please be aware that students must be enrolled in (and paying tuition for) a practicum course through their program while completing fieldwork hours. It is possible for a student to complete all required academic units but not yet have logged the necessary fieldwork hours to graduate; in this case, the student will need to continue paying tuition to be enrolled in a practicum course while completing fieldwork hours, which can inflate the final total tuition estimate significantly.
